Putney Apartment
A grand house on a wide tree-lined street cut into unremarkable apartments. We removed all doors and frames, all skirtings and architraves, and made openings run from floor to ceiling and to line through with window openings to create long, uninterrupted views throughout. What remains is light and airy. The simplicity of each space is softened by rich wood cabinetry and warmed by lighting that echoes the sunset as it dims. Artworks by Lucio Fontana, James Turrell and Wassily Kandinsky are referenced in the detailing of each space.
The entrance hall appears to be carved from a solid. A niche contains a submerged vase to hold a line of fresh-cut flowers. A slice out of the wall, lit from low down within, brings a bright blue line fading as it ascends. An oval skylight punches sunlight into the heart of the apartment.
The kitchen is in oak and black granite. As the light dims, the black sink and black induction disappear.

A hallway with each wall reflecting the divine geometric progression of Fibonacci. Westerly light penetrates the full length of the corridor. Colour-changing linear lighting beyond emulates the sunset as it dims.
