Maida Vale Loft

Consisting of a single room with a very deep plan, part single-storey and part two-storey and with a single window at one end, the challenge was to get light to all areas.

A curved stair balustrade, a tall blade of structure and a cantilevered balcony combine to form a sculpture bathed in light.

The entrance vista takes in the entire apartment, with single-, double-, and triple-height spaces. There is compression and release as you are drawn to the light.

By placing a galley above the main space, set back from the front and rear, with stepped and curved balcony edges, we were able to create a double-height entrance hall and main reception, along with a vaulted principal bedroom.
