Covent Garden Warehouse
Purchased as a shell, this apartment has just one enclosed room. The remaining spaces are hidden or revealed by walls of varying materials, heights, and opacities. Open plan, defined by wood, etched glass, stone and plaster. Despite being a single aspect, all spaces are bathed in light and benefit from views to the west and the sunset over Covent Garden. Even the bath is open-plan and sunk into the floor, so as not to obstruct the view.
Etched glass wall screens the entrance hall and is uplit from the floor. American black walnut low wall screens the study beyond. The gallery wall with Bridget Riley, washed with light from above, conceals the kitchen beyond. The stone plinth forms the entrance catwalk and creates a range of spatial scales.

The dining room sits within a fully glazed projecting bay over Covent Garden. The kitchen, not only concealed from the reception room by the gallery wall, has black granite worktops, splashbacks, sinks, taps, and a hob, forming a niche that becomes an abstract black composition in low light. Kazimir Malevich’s black square, if you will.
